King Road “Re-make”

In 2019 and 2020 there will be significant road work on King Road in King City: Dufferin to new Municipal Centre.  Monday, April 8 at 6 PM at Municipal Centre there is an information meeting. Starts at 6PM with powerpoint presentation; in addition there will be display boards and opportunity for questions.  Its a pretty exciting project:  turn lanes into Municipal Centre, tree planting, bicycle lane, new sidewalks, decorative elements.  This is a joint project between Region and Township.

    Hi Debbie,

I’m not sure I can attend tonight’s presentation, but would just like to mention a few things. 1. I have not heard even from one resident in the vicinity of the flags along Keele having anything positive to say about them. There are far too many, and give the area a slightly tacky appearance. I suggest that hanging baskets of flowers replace them, but they must be regularly watered in the heat of a dry summer. Once a week will not be of much help. They need to be colourful and hardy. Whoever decides these things may want to check out with other municipalities re what to buy; eg, Vaughan, Aurora, Richmond Hill. By July 1, last summer, the baskets on Keele, showed the effects of not having proper care.

    2. I sincerely hope that somebody considers a decent sized Canadian Flag at the entrance to this town, perhaps at the new library, somewhere where a little garden, below it, would prosper and make a good showing. This might help to show the new residents in our area that we are proud Canadians and encourage and welcome them to becoming the same. I would also suggest the same at the new municipal office, if there were enough room.

    3. We found it interesting that when visiting St. Jacobs, that there is a decent looking sign at each major entrance to the town which reads as follows. “DRIVE LIKE YOUR CHILDREN LIVE HERE.”

Thank you for your informative blog and thank you, to both you and Jordan, for looking after us in King City.

Hello Kay…thank you for your comments on various issues. I would like to respond. 1. As Chris Fasciano (he is responsible for delivering the Keele St and King Road streetscaping projects) indicated at the meeting negative feedback on the poles on Keele has been heard. Already banners have been removed from every second pole; in place will be a flower pot. After the latter have been installed and there has been some time to assess some of the poles MAY be removed and utilized on King Road. ii) I agree…pots need to be maintained. 2. Not sure what you mean by “decent size” but there is one at both Municipal Hall and Heritage & Centre in King City; I am sure there will be one at new KC library. 3. Thanks for your observation of sign at St. Jacobs.
