17th SDRD Safety Review

Mar 16, 2025 | Miscellaneous | 1 comment

On Council agenda for March 21 there is a staff report recommending changes to speed limit and other changes to the 17th side Rd  from Hwy. 27 to the 12th concession. As indicated in the report Council endorsed a motion.that there be a safety review of this corridor.  Methodology of the safety review and the learnings from it are included in the report. As a result of this review staff is recommending that the speed limit be increased from 60 to 70 kilometres and that there be a all-way stop control at 17th side Rd. And the 11th concession. In addition a number of traffic calming measures are included such as on road messages, flashing beacons at stop signs. I want some more information about the speed limit increase; but for all the other measures I am supportive.

As always deputations can be made. To do so please register at clerks@king.ca by noon on  March 17 or If you prefer you can e-mail your comments to clerks@king.ca and they will be distributed to Council members and appropriate staff.

There have been numerous accidents at the 10th Concession and the 17th Sideroad. One accident recently was fatal. Surely that intersection should also be an All Way Stop intersection.

As you drive along this same road into Caledon (name changes from 17th Sideroad to Castlederg Rd.) every single intersection (3 intersections) have All Way stop signs all the way to Hwy 50. I think that Caledon has the right idea.
