On April 14 Council agenda there is a staff communication which is an update of the Energy Conservation and Demand Management plan for 2024 to 2029. Updated plan features a new list of actions. In addition to looking forward the plan reviews accomplishments under the 2019- 2023 corporate energy management and conservation plan. The plan is aiming for 45% reduction by 2030 and shows actions to achieve that. I am impressed with the actions particularly as it is quite clear that all divisions and departments are engaged and have responsibility in this area.

As briefly reviewed in the report in 2019 staff requested that “the target be reduced to 35% with 10% offset to meet the 45%.”  I really wish they would be bold and just say they have a target of 45%; But, at this stage I don’t want to cause diversion to a discussion about the target.

There has been some publicity about Zancor Centre having achieved a carbon neutral building design certification. Page 5 of the plan  provides information on the various technologies systems which have been integrated into the design to achieve this certification

This is an information item on the agenda; hence deputations cannot be made.   If you have comments on the plan I am sure the staff would be very interested to receive them.
