Traffic Speed & Volume

Having reviewed the Staff report on traffic monitoring which is on the 11/1 Council agenda a constituent wrote me saying:  “I thought you might be interested in this story from the Toronto Star which is relevant to the traffic studies.  The staff report says speed is greatly influenced by the environment.  Maybe we should be changing the environment of streets to change the speed.  The staff report seems to me to take quite a narrow focus and would benefit from input by professions besides engineers.”  I agree:  the report is indeed very narrow in its focus:  I want to know what we have learned by using permanent radar boards, painted white lines at perimeter of road to create illusion of being narrower than actual, speed humps.  And, I want to know what more we could be doing.  Here is the Star article.
