Greetings and some dates

I celebrate Christmas with my family.  Last week I was honoured to spend an evening at the first gathering of a Chabad in King Township for the lighting of the fourth candle of a Menorah.  Hanukkah was recognized with thoughtful speeches, games, food and entertainment. This is the season of light for many cultures and religions, representing hope, resilience and love. In this time of uncertainty and upheaval it is important to remember the message of the season all year round. Have a wonderful holiday and a happy New Year.

There are two important changes coming into effect with the start of the new year. Effective December 31 recycling is no longer managed by the municipality. The Province has contracted to Circular Materials who has then contracted out to GFL for King and the five other municipalities in north York.  For an application for a container smaller than the 360 litre one with wheels delivered or if you have questions contact circularmaterials.ca/n6king.

King Township’s 2026 Waste Collection Schedule and Information is now available online. Print copies will be delivered to all households next week and will also be available for pick-up at the King Township Municipal Centre and recreational facilities starting in the New Year.

Starting January 1, 2026, Ontario’s Fire Code expands carbon monoxide (CO) alarm requirements to include an alarm on every storey (floor) of a home, not just near sleeping areas, for residences with fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces, or attached garages. This brings existing homes into alignment with newer building codes, requiring alarms near bedrooms and on all levels (including basements), plus expanded rules for multi-unit buildings to protect against this silent killer, with non compliance leading to significant fines.

And…mark your calendars for Saturday, January 10  for the Mayor’s Pancake Breakfast!  Its 8 to 11 a.m. at  Dr. Laceby Community Centre & Arena in  Nobleton
