An additional Council meeting has been scheduled for Monday Jan. 29 with the primary purpose of presentation and discussion of the draft 2018 Budget. You can read Staff report and the draft budget here. I will not comment on it as I have not reviewed it yet. I will say that despite the aggressive schedule for approval. as indicated in the opening paragraph, I consider the target approval date (February 5 Council meeting) as not being cast in stone.
Deb, your posts are smart, informative, balanced – everything one could wish for in a competent, dedicated Councillor – wish you were mine! But at least I’m getting the benefit of your insights.
What can I say? Thank you for your kind words.
Deb, the residents of Schomberg have significant concerns about cancellation of a proposed skate park for our town. Our youth (tween/teen years especially) have very little to do if they don’t play hockey. How do we get our voices heard before the budget is passed. Is a petition the way to go?
Hello Laurie, For your background: Last evening at Council more than 2 hours was spent discussing the budget. As Council members only received the details of the budget last evening there was no discussion about specific projects; but Staff was directed to come back to Council at the Feb. 5 meeting with a proposal for how to deliver a 0 increase in the township’s tax rate vs the current proposal of +1.99.
If you want to influence the budget it is important that you make your perspective known this week. (yes you could go to Feb. 5 Council and make a deputation but it would be far better to make your views known before that. emails to council members and/or petition are a way to communicate your interest and that you are not alone. Finally I suggest that you ensure that you have all the facts; you can do so by contacting Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture (Chris Fasciano) and/or your Councillor.
