On the February 28th council agenda there is a report recommending approval of amendments for the Official Plan and the Zoning Bylaw to enable the creation of four lots at 52 Stokes Court in King City. I am supportive of the recommendation as it is consistent with both current policies and in doing so there is appropriate consideration of the environment. There has been significant changes to the plan since the public meeting in May 2021.
One outcome from this development is that nearly 2.5 hectares of significant woodland and valley land is being transferred to the Township and will be rezoned as Environmental Protection. As noted in the recommendation there are currently 2 houses on the property. The one house which dates back to mid 19th century is located on the slope to the valley land. Removal of this building and implementation of the proposed landscaping is of great benefit as doing so may improve the chances of the slope not receding to the predicted long term slope as erosion will be reduced. There will be 4 unhealthy trees removed, zero healthy trees removed; and the landscaping plan includes 28 trees and over 300 bushes. As noted in the report a historical plaque will be erected; the above mentioned 19th century house was built by James Burns who played a significant role in the development of the hamlet of Kinghorn.
As always deputations can be made or emailed comments can be sent. For either contact clerks@king.ca by noon on Monday, February 28.
