Acquisition of HMDCS School

On 2/6 Council agenda there is report on the acquisition of the school in Ansnorveldt.  The school was formerly the Holland Marsh District Christian School; the latter moved to a new building and site 18 months ago.  As indicated it is not yet confirmed whether the building should be maintained and re-purposed into library/community space I agree with creating the opportunity. At minimum acquisition of the parkland is of benefit.  I will be requesting that there be an assessment of supply/demand for community space in the broader geographic area (e.g. Bradford) as part of the future decision on what to do with the building.  To see the report click here and go to agenda item 10.6

I can imagine that some readers will be surprised that we would be acquiring another “surplus” school.  All I can say is that one needs to seize the opportunities when they are presented.  I think the possibilities here merited stretching ourselves.
