On December 12 Council agenda there is a report recommending approval of a demolition application for a dwelling in Ansnorveldt as agreed by the Heritage Advisory Committee (HAC). Council’s approval is required as the property is “listed: on the municpal register. As reviewed in the report the dwelling, built in 1934, is one of several dwellings on Dufferin Street built by the early settlers when land near the Holland Marsh became available for sale. Those homes were built in a common style featuring a gambrel roof. I am a member of HAC and in agreement. As indicated in the report there is indication that the replacement dewelling will be respectful of the style which will mean that the streetscape, which includes several of the original homes will not be disrupted. That streetscape is valuable as it a good reminder of our cultural heritage. It is also recommended that the property continue to be listed.
