Designating Jan Rupke House

Feb 21, 2026 | Miscellaneous, Uncategorized | 0 comments

On February 23rd Council agenda there is a staff report recommending that Council issue a notice of intention to designate the Jan Rupkey House at 19130 Dufferin St.  The report is very thorough in reviewing the heritage attributes of this property and why designation is appropriate.  There is significant historical significance to the property: its the home of Jan Rupke, one of the first of 18 Dutch Settlers who were instrumental in founding Ansnorveldt and he was an early proponent of the settlement. In addition, as reviewed the structure’s form is rare and unique in the Township. As in 2025 we were celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the Holland Marsh it is particularly appropriate that this recommendation is before us now.    Here is a complete statement of cultural heritage value.

As always deputations can be made. To do so please register at clerks@king.ca by noon on February 23 or If you prefer you can e-mail your comments to clerks@king.ca and they will be distributed to Council members and appropriate staff.
