I am delighted to tell my readers that the motion about the Greenbelt Plan review by myself and seconded by Councillor Anstey was passed unanimously at the October 27th Council meeting Below are the five resolutions in the motion. To ensure no misunderstanding I want to confirm that the motion approved is not the same as what was showing in the agenda for that Council meeting; in a very collaborative manner the motion was amended at the meeting. Here is the complete motion (i.e. the “whereas” and the resolutions).

.I am very pleased with the motion. It clearly states what we want from the Province. And it clearly explains/show why King is well positioned to make these demands. i am also very satisfied as to how this motion has been created.

Congratulations, Debbie – and thank you for your leadership on this important motion. It’s great to see Council speak with one voice in support of a strong, transparent Greenbelt review. King’s clear commitment to protecting farmland, water, and natural systems — while recognizing the need for balance — really reflects what so many of us value about living here.
Hi Debbie,
While I am glad that you got the essence of your Greenbelt motion passed, I was not pleased with how it got accomplished. Council is not supposed to have meetings “in camera” unless specified. In order for this newest edition of your motion to occur, and have everyone agree to it ahead of time there must have been a private meeting. How did this happen? It certainly did not happen at the meeting, as Mayor Pellegrini already had a copy of the newest motion and offered it to Mary Bromley as she was scheduled to speak to the previous motion. I know that after Mary spoke, there was an adjustment of the first motion. But the question remains, why was there a new motion already worked out before you got to Council?
Hi Nancy, As you have the concern which you have articulated I am glad that you have raised it. There was no “in camera” meeting of Council sometimes referred to as a “closed meeting.” It is correct that individuals spoke to each other on a one to one basis and it became evident to the two persons who had each tabled a motion, i.e. Mayor Pellegrini and myself that the best motion for Council to vote on was one which merged the two. The typed versions (one which was given to Mary B) were produced on the spot i.e. we asked a Staff member to do the merger and to give us a copy.
Your dedication and super powers are much appreciated, Debbie. Now as we take our partners to task, best wishes for a meeting of minds and swift action.
