In Council March 23 agenda there is a report recommending a budget increase of $750,000 to the 2026 gravel road conversion pro program. As reviewed in the report bids for the 2026 conversion program came in higher than had been budgeted. Rather than not completing the conversion scheduled for 2026 staff have recommended funding the shortfall from two different reserves. By accessing the reserves there is no impact on property tax; in fact, Council has created different reserves to give us the flexibility to respond to unanticipated costs if it is deemed appropriate. I am supportive of using the reserves for this program.
The Township’s Asset Management Plan includes a directive for all gravel roads to be paved by 2040. The priority sequence for the order of gravel road conversions is dictated by theTownship’s Road Needs Study. For 2026, the roads planned for gravel conversion to asphalt are: Mill Road, Elmpine Trail, 17th Sideroad (from Jane Street west to termination at Highway 400) and 12th Concession (from 120m North of Caledon-King Townline to 17th Sideroad).
As always deputations can be made. To do so please register at clerks@king.ca by noon on March 23 or If you prefer you can e-mail your comments to clerks@king.ca and they will be distributed to Council members and appropriate staff.
