A draft of green development standards has been posted on speaking@king.ca.  This follows on a proposal made to Council several months ago; at that meeting Council endorsed the principle of developing the standards and provided comments on the draft presented.  As I have commented earlier I am very supportive of developing these standards.  At this time we do not have legislative authority to demand anything greater that Ontario Building Code; however, this gives us a framework for identifying what we want to see in new developments.  Given that emissions from buildings are the second  highest source we need to have buildings built in a more sustainable manner than previous. I encourage you to review the standards. Just reading it is an education…seeing all the different ways that a development impacts the environment.
