Heritage Designations

On January 27 Council 3 bylaws are on the agenda to approve; each is to designate a specific building to be of cultural heritage or interest pursuant to the provisions of the Ontario Heritage Act.  The 3 properties are :  George Pringle House at 13092 Hwy 27, Crawford Wells General Store (today known as Locale) at 12981 Keele, Hogan’s Inn at 12998 Keele. The staff report: GMS-PL-2024-14 brought forward three properties for heritage designation consideration at the September 23, 2024, Council meeting. A resolution to issue a notice of intent to designate for each property was passed, and the notices were issued on October 8, 2024. The Township did not receive any objections within the prescribed 30-day period for any of the notices. To see the bylaws scroll down to bottom of agenda for the meeting.

I am pleased that these bylaws are being passed.  We have been slow to protect these properties which are a valuable asset to the municipality.  As thoroughly reviewed in the earlier reports they definitely have the required heritage value for designation and they do significantly contribute to our sense of place.

Happy to hear about all 3 of these. I also find it incredulous that they are not already protected. We need to do more historical protections like these before we have nothing left to protect. Onwards! (and thank you for voting “Yes” to these 3)
