At February 5 Council meeting there is a Staff report reviewing feedback to Ministry of Municipal Affairs ‘s proposed regulations for inclusionary zoning. (The latter being policies requiring residential development proposals over a certain size to include a percentage of affordable housing.) I am posting this as I believe that many people, including myself, are concerned about the cost of housing and how so much of it is beyond the fiscal abilities of so many. This is not an issue which I have focused on. I found this report to insightful as to what such policies might be. The recommendations proposed by Staff sound appropriate.
Hi Debbie,
The sale of 2075 King Road to Zancor would have been an ideal opportunity to achieve this goal. Was it considered?
Thanks,
Mike
Prior to putting 2075 King Road up for sale we did a zoning amendment to enable mixed use with the thought that there would be commercial on ground floor with as many as 2 floors above being residential units. But, we did not make implementing that plan as a pre-requisite for submitting a bid. Providing alternate forms of housing is very important; and it is something we have been encouraging at several redevelopment sites on Keele south of King Road. To date shovels are not in the ground for any of the latter; but, the developers have been very open to the concept.
