Keele and King Road

At the January 30 council planning meeting one of the applications being reviewed is one for the southeast corner of Keele and King Rd. where there is a very prominent heritage house.  The proposal is exciting: it includes retaining the heritage property and integrating it into an overall architectural design which is in keeping with the heritage building.  It is also a very bold proposal as the plan is to build a 5 storey multi unit commercial/retail building. Having read the brief report I see one area where I want to know more:  parking requirements and traffic flow in this very busy area of King City.  As this is clearly a prestige project I want to hear about the owner’s vision in terms of building a very green building.

No decisions are made at this meeting; this is the opportunity for public to ask questions, state concerns, show support or disagreement.  Contact clerks@king.ca to register for making a deputation and/or send in your comments by email to clerks@king.ca by noon on Monday,1/30 and they will be circulated to Council.  And I welcome you to contact me directly or make a comment on my blog.

I’m very glad to see the integration of the heritage house into this proposal, and also the restoration of the heritage house both inside and outside. I also think adding commercial and retail space in the core is very positive. Parking is a big question, as I understand 113 parking spaces are required and the proponent’s design provides 7 spaces and proposes cash-in-lieu for the remaining spaces. If I’m understanding this correctly, then the municipality becomes responsible for providing the additional parking. I believe there needs to be a municipal parking plan in place in order for this project and other projects in the core to proceed. Adequate parking is another form of important infra-structure. Is this something the municipality is planning? Debbie, I share your interest in hearing more about forward-looking green building standards. I look forward to learning more.

As I said in my post there is need for both more information about parking and traffic flow.

Looks great However just another plan for the core that will materialize when? NE corner still nothing Keele south of dental clinic still nothing And parking big issue on street is full. Connecting path to community centre parking will help but it seems the core is a collection of plans without an overall concept of how it will come together Right now it’s just a bunch of unrealized plans.

Agree: its frustrating that concepts don’t turn into reality more quickly.
