King For Refugees–meeting December 9

There is a community meeting Wednesday, December 9 at 7 PM at King City Library to develop further the plans for welcoming and supporting Syrian refugees in King.  Its an opportunity to learn more about how individuals can contribute in a manner which is comfortable for them and to sign up to participate.  For some, that contribution may be volunteering to be one of the guides for the newcomers to help them learn how to get around the community using YRT; others may want to volunteer to set up social events to introduce the new comers to people in the community by hosting a pot luck dinner for example; others may offer to set up fund raising events.  It is a big effort; there is a planning committee who is working to knit together the good will & efforts of many individuals.  Here is the invitation with more details which has been sent to dozens of community groups and organizations throughout King; please help spread the word.  And think about how you can participate.  I am very proud to be in King where so many people have already said they want to help.

As the invitation indicates you don’t need to wait until December 9 to identify your interest in participating.  You can email king4refugees@gmail.com immediately.  If your interest includes offering accommodation and/or suggestions as to good accommodation please do contact the committee as soon as possible.
