Laskay Hall

20608375172_28f61e6c49_bLaskay Hall, on Weston Road, is one of our beloved heritage properties. As reviewed in the report before Council on October 17th there is the need to make a tough decision about this property.  Do we maintain status quo which likely, in essence,  represents a decision to essentially turn it into a monument; or, do we physically move it and position it to serve the community by being a meeting place for various groups and a space for the arts?  As evident from the report there has been significant public consultation; and there has been assessment of the financial issues.  As indicated in the report one stakeholder group has not yet weighed in, the Heritage Advisory Committee.  Laskay Hall is designated under the Ontario Heritage Act; hence the choice to move merits serious discussion by the Committee.  The report in question does not include a final recommendation; rather it is to confirm Council interest in pursuing an option of moving it.  Assuming that Council is interested next steps include review by HAC; in addition funds will need to be included in 2017 budget.
