An excellent strategic plan for our Museum has been approved. The mission statement of being a “vibrant gathering place..which connects our rich heritage to our dynamic future” excites me. Furthermore, the vision speaks to the critical role of creativity learning and collaboration for the evolution of our Museum. To my mind two of the 6 stated goals are truly paramount: establishment of a Community Museum Board which is empowered to support bringing the vision to life; building volunteer engagement. The strategy is very practical: one of the six goals is to increase attendance: very specifically to 5,000/yr over the next two years.
You can read the strategy here, which is in two parts – the strategy itself, and its appendices:
As the Strategy lays out the opportunities as to what can happen at the Museum are numerous including a community cultural hub, school programming. It is not to be the place where artefacts are viewed behind glass once a year or when visitor come to town. Given the origins of the Museum itself (i.e. its history), the identified importance of the King’s history & heritage in our Sustainability Plan and our growth this is is an important juncture; with the Strategy we now know where we want to go.
