There is staff report on September 24 Council agenda about retail cannabis including a proposed resolution indicating that King is opting out of the opportunity to have retail cannabis shops in King. The report also reviews that we will amend our zoning bylaws to confirm that such is prohibited. As reviewed in the report the Province has indicated that municipalities can opt-in or opt-out on this matter; and that a decision to opt-in cannot be changed whereas a decision to opt-out can be changed later.
I fully support the Staff recommendations as there are simply too many unknowns at this point; the only one certainty is that costs of enforcement will be high. This report and recommendations follow the direction Council gave in response to the Staff report in earlier Council meeting.
