Work has started to update the Official Plan (OP) of King Township. Whether you have lived in King for your whole life or if just moved here, your input is wanted. The OP is the overarching policy on how King will evolve as we grow to a population of 50,000 by 2051. There are two public open houses still to occur which are an excellent way to participate and/or simply learn more about this important work. The format of the meetings is as follows: 6-8pm drop in style so you can speak personally to one of the Planners and at 6:30 there will be a presentation. The latter is same at both upcoming meetings and is same as was presented in Schomberg at a meeting on Jan. 16.
Public Open House Schedule:
Wednesday, Jan. 22 at King Township Municipal Centre, King City
Wednesday, Jan 29 at Dr. William Laceby Community Centre & Arena, Nobleton
Here are some examples of the kind of issues/questions the Official Plan addresses.
- Do you want more green spaces and where would you want it to be?
- Do you want the current urban boundaries to be maintained? For example King City’s north urban boundary is 15th SDRD
- Do you want to see commercial/retail continue to be centralized in the village cores?
- How do we to accommodate population growth and support the development of complete communities; for 2051 population is currently forecasted to be 50,000 (2031 target population is 34,900)
- How do we ensure agricultural activities continue to be viable in King Township?
- How important is it to maintain the character of neighbourhoods?
- Do you want to see the 3 villages and the hamlets retain their unique character?
