Welcome to my blog! MY primary objective is to alert my constituents and others in King Township about issues being reviewed at the upcoming Council meetings. I do this as I believe the quality of Council decisions is enhanced when the public is engaged. I hope that residents will make deputations and/or send emails to Council to express their opinion and/or to ask important questions. Also, I include notice of meetings and events which I think are particularly important. I welcome your comments, whether you agree or not with me, and only edit to eliminate inappropriate language.

At Council on July 6 there will be a presentation by York Region Staff: "addressing growth to 2041: analysing and refining draft growth scenarios." The presentation is very timely as we are going through the process of updating our Official Plan (OP). I encourage those who are engaged in the OP process to attend if possible. The presenter is the Manager of Policy, Research and Forecasting...
Speed Feedback to Drivers on Kingscross Drive
As reviewed in Staff report before Council July 6th the traffic in Kingscross is moving too fast. Recent monitoring shows that 85th percentile speed is 78 km/hr which is well beyond the posted limit of 40 km/hr. Traffic speed and potential methods for slowing it down has been subject of several Council meetings and at least one public information meeting over the last 2 years. Each time,...
A Road Map for Moving to former Holy Name
There is a long awaited overview of how the Township Offices can be moved to the former Holy Name site on King Road in a report on July 6 Council agenda. Understanding how this project can be tackled and executed in a fiscally sustainable and responsible manner is important. As reviewed in the report the cost can be high (minimum $11-13 million); hence, it needs to carefully scoped out and...
Amendments to Municipal Election Act
Staff have proposed a resolution for Council as feedback to the Province on their proposal to amend the Municipal Elections Act. As reviewed, there are numerous amendments including changes to rules about campaign finance, 3rd party advertising; but of greatest interest, I think, is the proposal to give municipalities the choice to conduct elections using ranked ballots. I am very much in the...
