Re-drawing the Electoral Map

Many will have read about the exercise underway to redraw the Federal electoral map; but I suspect not many have looked at the proposed mapping.  The proposal has significant impact on King Township as it moves the northern boundary of King-Vaughan from Hwy 9 to Sideroad 18.  With the new mapping Schomberg and Kettleby, to name the settlement areas, would be in the New Tecumseth-Bradford riding.  Public consultations are underway; comments can be sent in until October 29.  Here is map showing the proposal. I am not happy with the proposed change and agree with feedback that Mayor Pellegrini provided: ” [having] reviewed the proposed boundary adjustment for the Township of King, I do not support the boundary moving southward from Highway 9 to 18th Sideroad. The relocation of this boundary will essentially divide our community of communities and is simply not in the best interest of our collective voice in King.”  If you have not heard about this redistribution exercise here is one summary article from G&M.

Note:  this exercise is specific to Federal districts; it does not automatically follow that the Ontario ridings will be modified.
