Seneca Expansion: Gold LEED

As reported in our local papers, the ceremonial ground breaking ceremony for the expansion at Seneca College was held Oct. 5.  At October 17 Council meeting there is a report recommending approval of the site plan. The plan is an exciting one as it will deliver >20 new classrooms & labs, 150 jobs in a building designed to achieve Gold LEED standard.  President David Agnew will be making a presentation at Council.

As evident in the report there have been some significant changes to design since August 2014 when Seneca requested and receiving a variance allowing a maximum height of 30 m as the design might be 4 stoies; the design now is only 15.8 m.  As there were concerns about the potential 30 meters I know this change will be welcomed by many.  Clearly, the Gold LEED is very good news and Seneca is to be congratulated for this.  I am curious to learn why they have decided to not have permeable parking and in place are proposing compensation measures.
