On the March 18 council agenda there is a report addressing two necessary steps to enable moving forward with plans to execute some renovations to the Immanuel Baptist Church located at the Heritage and Cultural Centre. Specifically it’s recommended to approve a heritage permit to enable renovations including the addition of a basement and to amend the statement of cultural heritage. I am very supportive of both as I believe it’s important to remove limitations for future adaptative reuse opportunities for Township programming and events. As was very clearly demonstrated in the recent review of the future of the Nobleton Community Hall not re purposing heritage buildings and integrating them into current life is a decision to demolish sometime in the future.
In addition to my support of the renovations and amending the designation bylaws in order to facilitate re purposing I I am pleased with the expansion, so to speak, of the cultural heritage history to include the history of the King Christian era which preceded the annual Baptist church era.
