On the March 18 council agenda there is a report recommending a street name for the Tribute subdivision in Nobleton. As I have expressed at other times I like very much how new street names are selected. “Herbert Watson Way” is proposed for Street ‘A” in the Tribute subdivision. Herbert Watson was the
mail carrier in Nobleton in the 1870’s; his route went from fromNobleton to Laskay, to King City, to Strange and back to Nobleton.
As always you can participate in the Council and make a deputation on this motion in person or virtually. For details on how to do please see Council agenda. Or you can send an email to clerks@king.ca by Monday noon with your comments, questions.
No problem with the street name ‘Herbert Watson’, but where are the streets in King Township named after women! It’s as if women didn’t have important roles in our history, whether the wives/partners of farmers and store owners, or teachers or nurses or business entrepreneurs. I have to believe that the King Historical Society has names to put forward.
