What Is the Hurry?

People are driving too fast everywhere.  At the upcoming (11/4) Council meeting there is a Staff report that a petition has been received from residents on Kingslynn Drive requesting traffic calming measures to improve pedestrian safety.  At last Council meeting Council approved a recommendation to install stop signs at various intersections on Kingscross Drive; this followed a report earlier that residents on that street had petitioned asking for traffic calming.  Temporary speed bumps are already in place on Elizabeth Grove.   In response to a proposal to build a roundabout at Lloydtown Aurora Rd and Keele, many comments were not about the roundabout per se but rather about the need to do something to slow the traffic down.I am glad that we have a policy on how to address the problem.  But, I am not naive enough to believe that this is going to really solve the problem.  People are driving too fast because they are in a hurry…just as our society is in general these days.  And of course there are those who are doing so due to lack of respect & care for others and the rules; I fear those will only want to drive faster for having lost time on the speed bumps and at the stop signs.  I confess to having a heavy foot sometimes; but it is happening far less often now.
