Application For An Event Venue

Jan 9, 2025 | Policies, Masterplans, Uncategorized | 2 comments

At the Monday January 13 public planning meeting an application for a zoning bylaw amendment is presented. The proposed amendment is to enable an Event Venue at 14855 Hwy. 27 (north of 16th SDRD).  The basis for the application is that this would be an on farm diversified use; as reviewed in the report there are various conditions which would need to be satisfied and it’s a review of those conditions by planning staff and other agencies. As this is a statutory public meeting there is no decision by Council except to refer it back to Staff. It is a good opportunity for interested public persons to ask questions and to voice any concerns. To access the staff report all all the attachments see meeting agenda and scroll down to 7.1.

As it is a public planning meeting there is no need to register in advance to make a deputation in person.  If you want to make your deputation remotely please contact clerks@king by noon Jan. 13.     If you want to send an email to Council please send to clerks@king.ca by noon January 13.

    Hi Debbie,
Thank you for highlighting this application for a zoning by-law amendment to allow for an on-farm diversified use.
I have more to learn about this application, and currently have a few questions.
Does the diversified use need to support or be integrated with the agricultural use?
I note that the property is about 50 ha in area, and yet only about 10 ha of the land is being farmed. How are the other 40 ha being used?
I note that this property is within the ORMCP area with designations as Linkage Area and Countryside Area. Does the proposed on-farm diversified use meet the intent and policies of the ORMCP?
I’ll endeavour to do a little research. Thank you for any additional information you can provide.

All good questions! That’s why there are these public meetings.
