Staff report on 12/14 Council Agenda proposes that our zoning by-law should be amended to direct a medical marihuana facility to the Rural General (RU1) zone exclusively.  This is NOT a proposal for approving a facility; rather it is establishing where such activity should occur in the Township. As this new crop, i.e. medical marihuana, has not always received the clearest/informative media coverage I found the report to be very informative in general.

We are not the first municipality to consider the question; hence, we have the opportunity to see how others interpret the issue.  I agree that it belongs in lands where agriculture occur whereas some jurisdictions have focused on the the laboratory and packaging operations in such facilities and have accordingly determined that they should be located in industrial lands.
