Broadband Strategy Needs Your Input

Need to hear from you to develop the right broadband strategy for York Regions.  Please participate in this survey.

There are gaps in our digital infrastructure today; and without a significant intervention King Township will be truly left behind as others expand and exploit their capabilities. Attendees at a conference a year ago heard this message loud & clear.  We also heard that being a “rural, large in geography & small in population” municipality doesn’t mean that we are destined to be this way; several municipalities in eastern Ontario have collaborated and are now implementing a strategy to bring high speed broadband to residents & businesses.   York Region is now developing its strategy; target for delivery of strategy is fall 2013.

There are 2 critical inputs to the strategy.

1st, a good definition of current state.

2nd a clear picture of where we want to be; specifically  what will we do, as residents, business owners and municipalities, once high speed, reliable and cost competitive internet is available.

To this end Project leaders met recently with members of Council and Staff to talk about how Township work would be done differently, how the interface between Council and residents would change.  Project leaders are doing same with the other lower tier municipalities, libraries, fire.  And the input of residents & businesses is critical.

Residents and business owners are requested to fill out the survey.  You can find it here.  There are also a couple public meetings; here are  details about the meetings.

Just think…if we had reliable, affordable high speed internet now, you could attend these meetings virtually!  But, as we aren’t living the vision yet, you need to travel to the identified locations.

Note:  if your home internet is too cumbersome for doing surveys you can go to our libraries and do it from there!  It is really important that we hear from the public as the strategy is developed.
