Capital Projects and Spending the OCIF Grant

Feb 24, 2024 | Budget, Miscellaneous, Transportation, Uncategorized | 1 comment

On the agenda for the February 26 council meeting there is a staff report including the quarterly review of capital projects: both those which are recommended to be closed and those which are not completed. In addition the report includes a recommendation for the 2024 allocation of the Ontario community infrastructure fund of $1,240,000 which was announced recently by the Province. As identified in the report there are several roads in ward 5, specifically in Kingscross, which are going to see road rehabilitation and reconstruction. These roads have been selected based on the roads needs assessment which sets priorities  based on road condition and traffic. Receiving the OCIF grant enables us to do this work without using property tax funds. There are several gravel roads, including one in ward 5, which are to be reconstructed and paved when funds are available; some might argue that they are of higher priority than the roads being improved using the OCIF funds. Staff have not recommended using the OCIF funds for this as it is our strategy to improve these roads using development charges (DCs) as the need to improve them can be justified as the need is influenced by growth. In contrast the roads to be improved using the OCIF are not affected by growth as they are in established subdivisions.

The roads to be improved are as follows

  • Manitou Drive
  •  Kingsworth Rd. (Blueberry Lane to Watch Hill Rd.
  • Kingsworth Rd. (Westgate to Blueberry Lane)
  •  Kingscross Drive (Cranberry Lane to Snowberry Lane
  • Westgate Circle
  • Westgate Blvd.

As always you can participate in the Council and make a deputation on this motion  in person or virtually.  For details on how to do please see Council agenda.  Or you can send an email to clerks@king.ca by Monday noon with your comments, questions.

Hi Debbie, Hope all is well. As you know I have been requesting that Station Road between Keel and Burns blvd, is in dire need of repair, as it is difficult to drive on as it is really wavy and lots of dips and is hard for the cars and the drivers. As you had mentioned in 2021 that it would be considered in 2022. Hopefully this will be addressed.
    Thank You P.
