At October 19th meeting Council approved designation of two properties in King City, specifically 2169 and 2175 King Road with the support of the property owner, the New Scotland Group (Laceby Real Estate). Laceby’s are to be congratulated on making such a bold statement about their interest in supporting King City to be a distinctive village to live and work in; where history and heritage is respected and integrated into our contemporary world.
These 2 properties are testimony about the history of King City. And as they are already re-purposed into two successful commercial properties, they demonstrate that it is very possible to be a 21st century enterprise in a heritage building. As designated properties there is assurance that the buildings will continue to be there; this is valuable to adjacent property owners in terms of making plans about their own properties. It also means that the property owners will be eligible for grants now being offered by the Township for designated properties.
Here is the link to the report tabled at Council about these properties. It includes good review of why these 2 properties are considered worthy of designation under Part IV, Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act for their cultural value. I am very pleased that the intentions of the property owners changed vs what is cited in the report (i.e. that they withdrew the demolition permits and have endorsed the designations.)
