Development West side of Keele

On November 2nd Council meeting there is Statutory Public Meeting for a zoning bylaw amendment application to enable development of properties on west side of Keele St. north of Burton Grove.. Specifically it’s for properties currently known as 12882-12894 Keele St. The proposal is to build a six story rental building.  I am very pleased that the proposal is for rental as this is pote/ ntially an opportunity to have some affordable residential units on Keele St. in King City. Given its location on Keele and proximity to the GO train station this is an ideal location; I say this recognizing that there is still a lot of very critical details which need to be identified.

Given what is in the report I do have a couple question  fs/concerns.

  • The proposed minimum front yard is .6 meters whereas the existing zoning by law calls for 2.0 meters. Just with these numbers I would say this building is too close to a very busy street; I need to understand better.
  • As is often the case the proposed parking spaces are less than in our bylaw; also there is no mention of number of accessible parking spaces.  I’m very interested to know plans for green building standards.
  • I know such is not a requirement and we cannot enforce such but whether the apartments are going to be marketed as affordable or not all the residents we’ll benefit with attention to why is it saying thatenergy conservation and renewables. I also need more information about the proposed density.

As there are several applications for development on west side of Keele north of GO train I am going to ask for Planning to provide a schematic showing all the applications in process.  I know that plans are not finalized but Council and public need visualization assistance for all that is in the works.

To see all the appendices and attachments to the report go to Council agenda and scroll to 6.1

This is a statutory public meeting and hence Council will not be making a decision; at a later date staff will provide a recommendation. The purpose of the public meeting is to receive comments from Council and public.  As always deputations can be made. To do so please register at clerks@king.ca by noon on Monday Nov. 2 or If you prefer you can e-mail your comments to clerks@king.ca and they will be distributed to Council members and appropriate staff.
