I was delighted to witness the presentation of Diamond Jubilee Medals to 4 residents in King Township by MPP Dr. Helena Jaczek on August 26th.

The accomplishments of each recipient are numerous and varied. Going from left to right in photo below and acknowledging that I am in the middle:

Judy Craig was recognized for her contributions including founding Arts Society King (ASK) and the Schomberg Village Association.

Susan Beharriell was recognized for her contributions including the breaking of gender barriers in the Military and her work on the King Environmental Advisory Committee.

Cheryl Fisher was recognized for her contributions including founding the King Township Food Bank.

Robert Hunt was recognized for his contributions including assuring the timely construction and start up of the Trisan Center.

At other occasions two additional King Township residents received the Medals:  Ann Mortimer, an internationally renowned ceramist and strong advocate for crafts and the artisans; and former Councillor Jack Rupke who is most proud of his humanitarian efforts including building schools in Central America.

The new commemorative medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, it serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.
