Draft Museum Strategy

A draft museum strategy was tabled at Council September 23. I am very enthusiastic about the strategy as it is not just a plan for status quo. Our Museum has gone through a significant disruption due to our decision to allow the temporary sales office to operate from there; but the museum also is emerging from that disruption with more space and several important physical improvements. It would be a real shame to simply continue operating the way we were doing so previously. Museums can be very dynamic “happening” places; our Museum should be such as it has a rich foundation on which to build. The draft strategy is a valuable tool for leadership as it includes very specific goals, both short term and long term.  Council approved the next recommended step of reviewing the draft with stake holders who have provided input throughout the process of creating it.

I encourage you to read over the strategy; you can find it here.  As I read it I thought about the reasons I go to a museum.  I go to not just see see artifacts; I go to see exhibitions which present to me the various narratives that are the core of the identity of the place. I would expect our “new” Museum to exhibit our agricultural story, the equine and equestrian story, our natural heritage, the ethnic demographics & associated cultures, industry.
