Edward Pottage House

On the March 18 council agenda there is a report recommending  that Council proceed with designating the property on the Lloydtowntown Aurora Rd associated with the founder of the hamlet of Pottageville, Edward Pottage.  I am thrilled to see this designation being initiated. And it is truly wonderful that this dwelling has been obviously owned and cared for by persons who respected and appreciated it’s historical and cultural history.  The current owners initiated the review to assess merit for designation.

As always you can participate in the Council and make a deputation on this motion  in person or virtually.  For details on how to do please see Council agenda.  Or you can send an email to clerks@king.ca by Monday noon with your comments, questions.

In my view this is an excellent heritage home to designate on the Ontario Heritage Registry. It has a number of fine architectural features that are representative of an Ontario farmhouse in the mid-nineteenth century that have been very well maintained. Being the home of Edward Pottage and his wife, Elizabeth Beal Pottage, among the original settlers in the Pottageville area, gives this heritage house significant cultural interest.

Thank you for highlighting this report and the proposed designation Debbie.
