On December 9 Council agenda there is a staff report recommending two street names in the condominium development being created at 66 Main St. in Schomberg. I love this process for naming new streets and I can’t imagine that there has ever been 2 new street names which have been more appropriate than what is proposed here. As reviewed in the report Joseph Hollingshead was a merchant, the postmaster, and Justice of the Peace in the village of Schomberg. Plus he built and resided in 66 Main Street. Margaret Coburn was actively involved in volunteer work community planning, environmental initiatives and public education as a York Region school board trustee. She and her family lived at 66 Main St. from 1971 2/20/17. I consider it quite perfect that it is proposed to call it Margaret Coburn Place as Margaret did a lot of her work by inviting people to her place to talk and plan. I feel very fortunate to have spent hours with her and others at her place.
To see both the a report and its appendices (the conservation plan for 66 Main Street and the site plan) go to the evening’s agenda and scroll to 9.3.
