I consider King City community to be very fortunate that the Province has announced funding and plans to significantly increase GO service; “our” line will have electric trains running every 15 minutes both directions throughout day & evening. This may be the opportunity to significantly upgrade road crossings to minimize train whistles and yet achieve safety standards. Public meetings are being held by Metrolinx as part of the environmental assessment; its important that Metrolinx hears from the public. November 4 it will be in Newmarket and November 10 in “Vaughan; full details below.

Hi Debbie,
This potentially sounds like very positive news. I wanted to clarify – are the GO trains to be used truly electric trains? This would be very positive in contributing to less air pollution and greenhouse gases and would compliment a “green” and healthier future. The access to using GO trains would increase substantially with trains every 15 minutes day and evening and more people could commute.
How will long term parking be addressed in King City?
In terms of road crossings, we have three on the GO line in King. I wonder what studies show would be the most helpful ones to address. In the long term, the Dufferin crossing may be the best one to focus on. I think an underpass or overpass will take a long time to construct and be very expensive, so planning now is the time. I met a GO train the other day crossing the 15th Sideroad, and I found the signals worked very well and traffic was only stopped for less than one minute.

Hi Bruce, I am not quite sure what you mean when you ask if they are “truly” electric. But yes, that is what I have heard. Parking is indeed an issue which needs to be addressed up & down the line. Already the multi tiered garage in Aurora is often full. And let’s face it, there will never be enough. That’s why it is so important that there is intensification along the public transit corridors; we need for people to walk, bike or use public transit to get to the GO trains. There was some mention of this by the Minister of Transportation when the ribbon was cut at the renovated parking lot north of Station Road a couple weeks ago. The Minister indicated that there are studies underway to assess a multi tiered garage at one of 3 stations, including King City. Metrolinx has acquired more land in the vicinity of the GO and I anticipate that there will be more parking made available; question is whether it will be simply surface or multi-tiered garage.
