Green Standards in the Ontario Building Code

On November 13 Council agenda there is my motion, seconded by Councillor Asselstine, asking the Province to expedite energy performance green building standard amendments to the Ontario Building Code (OBC). Without these amendments we can only encourage and not enforce that buildings, being constructed today, are built to the highest energy standards.  Home owners in homes constructed in compliance to these higher standards will enjoy lower energy costs and more comfort without the necessity of doing expensive retrofits. Its frustrating that new homes and other buildings are being constructed in a manner which is obsolete.  Its evident that the validity of amending the OBC to incorporate highest energy efficiency and to minimize greenhouse emissions has been acknowledged by the Province as they indicated in February 2022 to do so by summer of 2023.

You can participate in the Council and comment on this motion  in person or virtually.  For details on how to do please see Council agenda. See the motion here or go to the agenda and scroll down to 14.1.
