Keele West

On Monday, April 4th there will be the statutory public meeting for an application to amend the King City Community Plan (KCCP) and the Schomberg King City Urban Areas Zoning By-law 2017-66 to provide for the re-development of  lands on west side of Keele across from the lands between Clearview and Elizabeth Grove which are on east side of Keele.  The application is to enable  construction of a 6-storey building containing 247 residential units.  The application is to amend the KCCP as the portion of the recently approved and in force Official Plan (Our King) which is relevant to the application  is under appeal.  Having said that, the review of the application will take into account that the lands are in a Major Transit Area (MTA) as indicated in Our King.   As is customary no decisions are made at this meeting; rather it is the opportunity for public to ask questions, identify concerns.  Public who wish to provide comment or to make a deputation must register at clerks@king.ca by noon on April 4. The staff report will be published on the Thursday before the meeting i.e. March 30.  Here is the proposed site plan.

In 2019 Council approved a project to be built on a portion of the lands included in this new application, specifically 12800 Keele; that approval was complete in that the site plan was approved.  Much to my regret the developer did not proceed to construction; rather, ownership was broadened and additional lands were purchased immediately to the south.  I was disappointed as the product was of good design and fit with the character of Keele. I hope we can work together to achieve same quality.
