Kettleby is back!

Now here is a Christmas present for all those affected by Canada Post’s (CPC) decision to drop the name Kettleby from their data bases and to replace it with King:  they have agreed to reinstate the name Kettleby pending receipt of a resolution from Council.  At our 11/26 Council meeting the resolution was unanimously approved; you can read it here.   Implementation will likely take a couple months.

Concurrent with the decision to change the name, CPC also announced that mail addressed to Kettleby would be directed to King City post, at L7B 0C9.  This part of the change is not being reversed or changed.

Since CPC’s original announcement in July there have been reports that the change in postal code is being cited by insurance companies as a justification for increasing insurance rates.  An increase in insurance rates solely due to a change in a postal code change initiated by CPC is essentially illegal.  The Financial Services Commission of Ontario specifically addresses this unethical practice in a bulletin which you can read here.

So to confirm:  Kettleby is being reinstated as the community/mailing name.  If you have already changed stationery or advised friends that your new address is King, your mail will continue to be delivered.

And I say kudos to Mayor Pellegrini for not giving up.
