King City Corporate Center Application

When driving past our Museum on King Road, you will  soon see on the opposite side of the road the big white sign with black letters announcing that that an application “for something” has been made for that property.  As this is a big development I want to provide a brief summary of the upcoming process.

The application is for an Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendment.  The above mentioned sign is going up because the application has been deemed “complete.”  This does not mean that the content has been thoroughly reviewed and assessed; rather, in my words, it simply means that Planning Staff have looked at all the documents presented and have been able to check off the boxes as to what is required.  The proponent (King City Corporate Centre) will be hosting a public information session.  After that the required Public Meeting will be held at Council.

Here are some key points from the King City Community Plan regarding this site.

  • zoned as a Prestige Employment Area
  • permitted uses are offices, research, education and training, institutional, data processing and related facilities, light industrial displaying high design standards, community parks
  • prohibited uses are retail commercial including food stores and commercial malls; service commercial including restaurants and auto facilities, open storage and commercial self storage warehouse.

The KCCC application is not consistent with our Official Plan; hence the application for Amendment.

As this is our one and only prestige employment area this application is very important.  The fact that it is the major gateway into King City, that it is across from the Museum and a prestigious new residential subdivision it is even more important.

Yes, quite rightfully said the plan has been registered but not necessarily approved largely because the opportunity for public input was only asked for a week ago and then the announcement of a public meeting has been unspecified. However, the Hunter’s Green Ratepayer’s Association is looking forward to engaging in the process of public input . While this development may appear “prestigious” in light of other activities in King City, there are long term residents who will be interested in seeing those standards are upheld and that their properties will not be adversely affected. Hi Sheila, I just want to clarify that there has been no opportunity for public input to date because the process is just beginning. The developer now has a proposal which will be presented to the public and feedback will be requested at their community meeting. Then there will be the public meeting at Council. Also, the term “prestige employment” is the zoning classification in the official plan. Good to hear that Hunter’s Green Association will be engaged as your input is important.
