On September 9 council agenda there is a report which includes as an attachment the final draft of the King Community Climate Action Plan (KCCAP). Developing it has been a long process but given the complexity of the issues and the need to engage & connect with community members in its development the length of time is perhaps not surprising. The KCCAP provides a road map for becoming a low carbon community. Specifically, the target is to reduce our community emissions by 2030 to be 35% less than they were in 2018; the long term goal is to be a net zero community in 2050. Success is dependent upon community involvement. As reviewed in the KCCAP there are already initiatives and efforts by community, both by individuals and community groups to respond to climate change. This plan leverages those efforts and interest and brings the benefit of partnership with the Township.
In the Action Plan you can see the inventory of emissions in King, where the emissions come from and how this data has been collected. Starting on page 35 of 73 the actions are identified. As reviewed many of these actions were suggested in the various public engagement sessions held over the last two years.
I am ready to endorse the Plan. I hope you will look at the actions and see at least one which you can see yourself grabbing onto and executing or joining others to do so. If you wish to make a deputation and/or make comments to Council please register with clerks@king.ca or send an email by noon Sept. 8th. You can make a post on this blog or contact me directly.
This is great news, Debbie. Our township and all who live in it must act locally and think globally. It is not hard to lessen carbon footprints and only good comes of it.
