On May 25 Council agenda there is a report covering a report an an application for an Official Plan and Zoning Bylaw Amendment for a property at the corner of King Rd. and William St. in King City. The amendments are proposed to facilitate 6 storey building containing 190 residential units. Permanent access to this development and others proposed within the same block along King Rd. would be provided by a future mid block connection private road between William St. (west) and King Blvd. (east). The amendment is asking for a significant increase in FSI (floor space index)—from 2.5 to 3.57. It’s a concept which I continue to struggle to really understand and appreciate. But I believe FSI is very important as it impacts the density of the area and the overall living environment. For example high FSI areas might offer more amenities and housing options but could also mean higher population density and less open space. I am interested to know whether the proposal is for rental units or condo.
