Land Disposition and Acquisition in Nobleton

Feb 9, 2024 | Uncategorized | 2 comments

On Feb. 12 Council agenda there is a report reviewing the disposition and acquisition of lands in Nobleton.  The lands being declared surplus and disposed are lands associated with the former Nobleton Junior Public schools.

As always you can participate in the Council and make a deputation on this motion  in person or virtually.  For details on how to do please see Council agenda.  Or you can send an email to clerks@king.ca by Monday noon with your comments, questions.

The lands being disposed of are not just a huge acreage from the Nobleton Jr. School lands, but also the roadway from the Old King Rd to the Arena parking lot beside the Old Community Hall.

To my mind this is a huge mistake in so many ways. Selling the roadway leads to making a long winding road through the park to make a second exit. Climate change means that we should be encouraging walking paths, not roads!

The land that is designated to be declared surplus from the old Jr. School lands is way too much. The depth of this land is more than twice the depth of the land occupied by all its neighbours to the west.

This not only removes land from the park but interferes with making the roadway to the second exit. A roadway makes the park unsafe for little kids who should be safe to walk and run all over the park.

Not only that, but the report to Council recommending or not the sale of surplus lands must be written by the Clerk, not by the Director of Community Services. By-law 2008-123.
