Lot Severances Annual Review

In Council agenda for 2/22, there is the annual report on lot severances. I am extremely disappointed that Staff’s report, in its summary comments, indicates that severances in the villages is consistent with our integrated community sustainability plan; I do not agree.  When the plan was written and we talked about the importance of infill and intensification we were not talking about 1 lot at a time with severances in established subdivisions.

The report does hi-light the dramatic decrease in new lot creation in the rural areas; 1990-2002 there were 80 new lots in comparison to 10 new lots in last 10 years.  This decrease is due to the conservation plans (Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan and Greenbelt) which are intent on preserving natural spaces and ones that large enough to be meaningful for agricultural purposes or for wildlife.
