On the September 28 Council agenda there is a motion tabled by Mayor Pellegrini, seconded by me regarding The Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF).  Specifically the motion is to support a request made by the Municipal Finance Officers’ Association of Ontario (MFOA); the latter has  requested that the Province extend a commitment beyond 2026 and to make it permanent.   It also requests that the new commitment  be made in advance of the allocations for the 2027 calendar year.  This support will help municipalities to continue building housing-enabling infrastructure while preserving the economic value provided by existing infrastructure.  The Mayor’s motion is to

The commitment in 2021 was to double the fund which is then distributed across the 425 small, rural and northern communities to help pay for critical infrastructure projects, including road, bridge, water and wastewater projects.  In 2026 King received $1 million.  To provide some context:  2026 capital budget was $16.5 million.   A request to simply maintain the level of OCIF funding is modest given that it is not adjusted for inflation.
