On the September 28 Council agenda there is a motion I have put forward, seconded by Mayor Pellegrini, regarding the retention period for Council meeting recordings. It is very satisfying to me to bring this forward to my Council colleagues. I am anticipate unanimous agreement as I know that some are frustrated, as I have been, about the current policy whereby the recordings are only kept for two weeks after the council meeting. I think the proposed change to maintaining recordings for a period defined being  “equal to the current Council term plus one (1) year, commencing with the 2026-2030 Council term” is entirely appropriate.

I am very pleased to initiate our policy about retention as implementing this amendment will enhance transparency. As noted in the motion the minutes do not incorporate the comments, the discussion which takes place at Council.  Sometimes better understanding about why decisions are made is achieved by hearing that discussion.
