Welcome to my blog! MY primary objective is to alert my constituents and others in King Township about issues being reviewed at the upcoming Council meetings. I do this as I believe the quality of Council decisions is enhanced when the public is engaged. I hope that residents will make deputations and/or send emails to Council to express their opinion and/or to ask important questions. Also, I include notice of meetings and events which I think are particularly important. I welcome your comments, whether you agree or not with me, and only edit to eliminate inappropriate language.

King Road–to be improved but not widened
We heard good news from York Region at July 9 Council: the project to improve King Road between Highways 400 and 27 has been substantially scaled back. The EA to widen it has been cancelled. There will be modifications to 5 intersections on King Road to improve safety: the Weston Road, the 7th, the 8th, Mill Road, 27th. As I reviewed in an earlier posting the rationale for the project had...
New Transit Fare Subsidy Program
York Region has implemented a pilot program for transit fare subsidies for intellectually challenged people. Under the pilot program, eligible Ontario Works (OW) and Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) clients will receive a 50-per cent discount on York Region Transit (YRT)/Viva adult monthly passes. For example: for Zone 1 the pass is reduced from $115.00 to $57.50. I reported earlier...
Paving King City Streets
Restoration of roads damaged during sewer installation is finally going to be completed in King City with a few exceptions as reviewed below. The 2012 work plan has always included paving a number of streets but the budget was inadequate to do all. Now, thanks to the job being contracted out at a lower price than anticipated coupled with a Developer Contribution we are able to expand the...
King City Corporate Center Application
When driving past our Museum on King Road, you will soon see on the opposite side of the road the big white sign with black letters announcing that that an application “for something” has been made for that property. As this is a big development I want to provide a brief summary of the upcoming process. The application is for an Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendment. The above mentioned...
