Parks Division Move to Schomberg–more information

Earlier I wrote about a plan to move the Parks Division Staff to the former Schomberg Arena.  In response to questions indicating lack of understanding about the plan and criticism about both the plan and how the plan had been communicated additional information is presented in a staff report  on the 11/27 Council agenda (click on link and scroll down to item 10.7) In addition, as indicated in the report, an information meeting is being held with residents in the immediate area to answer their questions.

One of the criticisms I heard from a couple people was that spending as much as $100,000 to enable the Parks Division to move there for a couple years was too much as it might be determined that the idea was not a good one in terms of functionality for the Parks Division or that it was a bad fit for the Village.  Good point.  In the above mentioned report there is not an updated number on cost; but, I do know from discussions with Staff that it will be far less as they now have had an opportunity to do a more careful assessment of needs.

As I wrote earlier I think the plan is a practical, good solution to the need to address the crowded conditions at the Works Yard on 8th concession.  As detailed in the report, the plan is not to create a new works yard; rather it is to store some equipment which will be out of sight.  And as reviewed in the report the use of parkland reserve funds is appropriate.
